Today we’re celebrating connection, culture, and mental health with students from across Horizon. Huge thanks to Robb Nash • Laura Lawrence • Michael Ball • Kawacatoose Boys Singers & Dance Troupe • All who presented at the wellness resource fair • Horizon’s amazing counsellors for organizing this day • Last but not least, our students for lifting one another up and working to break stigmas.

We honour the lives taken and raise awareness of this ongoing crisis of violence. Did you know that Indigenous women are four times more likely than non-Indigenous women to be victims of violence? And that, from 2001–2014, the rate of homicides involving Indigenous female victims was four times higher than that of non-Indigenous female victims?

This Mental Health Week, we’re joining the call to Unmask Mental Health. Stigma can make people feel like they have to hide their struggles—but the more we choose honesty and compassion, the more connected and supported we all become.

Today is a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for the planet we all call home.

Across Horizon, students and staff continue to take small steps that make a difference: planting, recycling, reducing waste, and learning about our environment.

Today, we lower our flags to half-mast in remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. We honour the bravery, sacrifice, and legacy of the Canadian soldiers who served.

Let us remember the importance of sharing our wishes with our loved ones. The story of Logan Boulet, who made the selfless decision to become an organ donor and shared his wishes with his family, is a reminder of how one person’s actions can make a significant impact on others. His decision not only saved six lives but also inspired a nation and created a movement known as the #LoganBouletEffect.
