Agricultural Education

Agriculture is at the heart of life in east-central Saskatchewan. Horizon School Division is committed to helping students understand the importance of agriculture in our communities, from food production and sustainability to culture, identity, and future career pathways.

We are proud of the many schools across Horizon that are embracing hands-on, land-based learning. From caring for school gardens and chickens, to exploring Treaty relationships and traditional teachings, these experiences help students connect deeply with the land and understand their role in caring for it.

Student Agriculture Day
In 2024, Horizon’s annual Student Day adopted an agriculture focus, leading to the decision to permanently dedicate this event to agricultural themes. Beginning in 2025, all Grade 10 students attend a full day of agriculture-focused learning.
We are grateful to the many partners and supporters who helped make our inaugural event a success. Please see the links on the right for more information.

2025 Lieutenant Governor’s Award
Horizon School Division is honoured to receive the 2025 Lieutenant Governor’s Board of Education Award for Innovation and Excellence in Education for our agriculture initiative, From Field to Future. Our sincere thanks to Her Honour the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre, S.O.M., for presenting this award, and to The Promhouse Financial Group at CIBC Wood Gundy for sponsoring it. Thank you to the Elders, partners, and educators who bring this work to life for our students every day. 🎥 Video: https://youtu.be/mfUGYoLvfj0

Canadian Western Agribition
Horizon is proud to return to Canadian Western Agribition as the only Indigenous Education team with a dedicated space at the event.
In 2025, our staff and partners hosted a full area in the Brandt Centre, offering daily hands-on activities, cultural teachings, land-based learning demonstrations, and opportunities for students to explore how agriculture shapes their world.
