Inclusive Education

Inclusive Education at Horizon School Division is grounded in the belief that inclusion is not a place—it’s a mindset and a practice. Our team works alongside students, families, and school staff to ensure every learner feels valued, supported, and able to succeed. Guided by the idea that “inclusive education is not about where a student should be, it’s about where they could be” (Shelley Moore), we focus on creating learning environments where all students can grow, participate, and reach their full potential.

Our Inclusive Education team includes speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and an inclusive education coordinator and coach who all report to our Superintendent of Inclusive Education. Together, they working individually with students and help teachers and schools build their capacity to support all learners.

The team also supports newcomer students and those learning English as an Additional Language, helping them feel welcomed and successful in their new school community. Through partnerships like the Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) program, families are connected to local services, resources, and free events that make transitioning to a new community easier and more meaningful.

Our speech-language pathology (SLP) services support students in developing the communication skills they need for learning, social interaction, and everyday success. To learn more about how SLP services are provided—including who may receive support and what that support can look like—please review our delivery model below.
